The Walk! Bike! Brockport Action Group engages in a variety of programs and activities related to our primary goals. Some of these have specific time frames while others are ongoing. The camera icon indicates programs that are represented in our photo gallery.

Weekly Bike Rides

Walk Bike Brockport strongly encourages biking in and around the greater Brockport area. The Village of Brockport's location on the Erie Canal, with its bike-friendly Canal path and surrounding terrain offers a wonderful setting for short and long distance rides though scenic countryside. Each summer numerous long-distance biking groups pass through Brockport—some riding from Buffalo to Albany, others making a coast-to coast-trip. For information on the many biking opportunities in our area, please note the following:

  • Western NY Wellness Rides for Cancer Survivors - Every Monday at 6 PM in Mendon Ponds Park or Northhampton Park beginning May 3 . Check website for program information, sign up and schedule.
  • RTO Bicycle Group-Tuesday (9 AM) and Friday (10 AM) Rides - Leisure rides of 15-20 miles with an optional lunch stop afterwards. Different locations around the county each week beginning April 23. For information call Dick Rizzo at 637-9248 or email: This email address is being protected from spambots. Bikes are available at the Brockport Visitor Center located between Main Street and Park Street on the Erie Canal. These bikes are free, but must be returned after your ride.

Weekly Walking Events

The Village of Brockport and the surrounding area offers a unique setting to enjoy walking. The Village itself has numerous historic sites associated with a turn-of-the-century legacy and proximity to the Erie Canal. For more information on the wide range of hiking and walking opportunities around the greater Brockport area, including the two-mile Sweden Community Park trail, please use the following web-links:

Nordic Walking

Nordic walking provides a good cardiovascular workout that is easier on the joints than normal walking. An informal group meets at the Northhampton Ski Hill parking lot on Wednesdays and walks from 9:00- 10:00 AM Call Carol Rizzo at 637-9248 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Farmers' Market

Months of planning, led by Carrie Maziarz, led to the creation of Brockport's first Farmers' Market. Local farmers are supporting the market and there is a waiting list for renting space. It is in tune with New York State's drive to encourage people to walk and bike (to the Market), thus promoting public health - a much needed goal in view of America's health crisis arising from sedentary lifestyles.

Trail Building

Our Trail Building Project, led by Peter Randazzo and Dave Ball, focused on a major trail in the Town of Sweden recreational area off Redman road near the State University of New York, College at Brockport. In the future this trail will link-up with other trails leading north to Lake Ontario.

Public Information and Education Outreach

A number of members of the Walk! Bike! Brockport! Action Group have given talks in such venues as the Brockport Lion's Club and the Western Monroe Historic Society at the Morgan-Manning House, promoting safe and enjoyable walking and biking in the Brockport, Sweden and Clarkson communities. In addition, we sponsor a poster safety contest in the Central School  District. In addition, members of our group typically greet biking groups coming in the summer through Brockport from Buffalo to Albany,on the biking New York tour, and on coast to coast rides.
