Brockport Fire Museum and Hose House Get a New Roof

VILLAGE OF BROCKPORT, February 2, 2007

When firefighters contacted Rick Davis of Repair N Remodel, LLC, they were hoping he could offer advice and solutions to a roofing system that appeared to be failing at the Museum. During a routine inspection of the property by the company trustees, they noticed their roof and bell tower on the Fire Museum were in need of a lot of work. They met with several people to discuss whether an immediate repair was imminent or if the building could make it through another winter. It was decided a new roof was needed at once.

Mr. Davis took the lead and sought other contractors to assist him and his crew in making the repairs and preserving this historic landmark for his local fire department and community. He secured a multitude of donations to accomplish his task. Owens-Corning, Allied Roofing, Keystone Builder Supply and Repair N Remodel LLC all provided several squares of fifty year shingles each, Lakeside Building Products supplied flash vents and miscellaneous supplies and Suburban Disposal donated the delivery of the refuse container to and from the site. Ice and water shield, drip edge, felt, nails, assorted shingles and all necessary labor were then provided by Rick Davis at no charge to the Museum or fire company.

They needed to tear off the old roof, dispose of the refuse, prep the roof and apply the new one before the winter weather set in. Repair N Remodel was assisted on site by the BHS Wrestling Club who offered a community service project to help with the clean-up of the site as the project wore on, and Jimmy Z’s Restaurant provided lunch for the club volunteers.

Company and Museum Trustees were overwhelmed by the generosity and community support they received when a need was identified and budget constraints may have forced the work to be put off for another year when it really needed to be done this year.

They are indebted to Rick Davis for the countless hours he put in planning the project, securing the materials and making it happen well before the first snow. Our museum and building will live on for future generations safe, secure and “dry” thanks to him and his efforts.
