Village of Brockport Receives Urban Forestry Grant from NYSDEC:

Funding from New York State is providing the Village of Brockport a boost in its goal of figuring out the status and condition of all local street trees.

Through its Urban Forestry Program, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) awarded the Village a $4,040 grant to hire a consultant to help create a comprehensive inventory and assessment of trees in the Village. Members of the Village Tree Board developed the successful grant application.

"Brockport is in serious need of an up to date inventory. The last survey was completed in the late 1990’s. Unfortunately, due to other current priorities ... our Department of Public Works could not dedicate resources to a project of this magnitude. Having this kind of technical help is really going to help," said Village Manager Ian M. Coyle.

Once this survey is complete, the Village will be eligible for additional grant projects to purchase replacement street trees. This replacement process will enhance streetscapes and restore important natural character back to Village streets.
